Wisdom from a former Spy

Updated: Nov 13, 2021

What can we learn from a Former CIA Officer?

Today The Secure Dad Podcast welcomes Doug Patteson. Doug is a former CIA officer who served multiple overseas tours against the full spectrum of intelligence targets.

He now works as the CFO of a multinational manufacturing business and consults on film/tv and security projects. You'll occasionally see him on screen, though he much prefers the writer's room and video village.

He also is a professor of intelligence studies in the undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of New Hampshire. He has been married to his wife Susan, also a former CIA officer, for 30 years and they have 4 children.

The Rule of the Stupids

Doug offers great advice for staying safe that he calls the rule of the stupids.

“Don’t do stupid stuff with stupid people in stupid places as stupid times of the day or night.”

Brilliant, isn’t it?
